Nick Maynard's Retirement Dinner
Cherwell Boathouse Restaurant, 50 Bardwell Road, Oxford, OX2 6ST
We’re very much looking forward to enjoying and evening with Nick and Fionnula next Tuesday – and we congratulate them on recently becoming grandparents for the first time!!
Just in case you might not know, or know of Nick, he’s been a leading light in Upper HGI surgery for the last three decades across the UK and indeed the world, refining surgical techniques and inspiring others worldwide to take on these very difficult procedures saving literally thousands of lives. Nick has developed and led the Oxford University Hospital Trust’s Upper GI surgical team establishing it as probably the best team in the world, of course we are bias! But very close to it being a fact. This newsletter isn’t long enough to credit a fraction of Nick’s many achievements and hugely impactful volunteering abroad, so we may think about ‘an evening with Nick’ at some point in the future, where we OOSO members get together, and listen to him talk. Watch this space.
Nick is soon to retire from duties at the Churchill Hospital in August, so this is a timely moment for us to say ‘thank you’ over a small plate of food and cold beer. But very fortunately for us he won’t be retiring from OOSO and will carry on as a Trustee and one of the founding members.
The dinner is now fully booked with sadly no more places left. We’ll share pictures with you in the next newsletter.
Ideally arrive for 6-6:30pm, which is not a change from our original arrival plan.
The restaurant is a short walk from the adjoining Bardwell and Chadlington residential roads, where free on-road parking is available after 4pm.
We are seated in the Boathouse area, on the waterfront by the river Cherwell, to the right of the main covered restaurant.
The dinner will be served buffet style, we have nice circular tables with no seating plan - for you to mix and choose where you wish to be. There will be 58 of us.
Additionally there'll be some background music and our own bar, with water served to each table.
We've arranged for a few guest speakers throughout the meal, and expect to close/depart 9-10ish, or whenever you wish.
